What is Testogel® 40.5 mg, transdermal gel in sachet?

Before taking Testogel® 40.5 mg, transdermal gel in sachet, you should read the package leaflet.

Testogel® 40.5 mg, transdermal gel in sachet is a treatment for testosterone deficiency (TD) that contains testosterone. It can be prescribed by a doctor and you have:1

Apply Testogel® 40.5 mg, transdermal gel in sachet using 3 simple steps each day:1

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

1. Apply

  • Apply a thin layer of Testogel® 40.5 mg, transdermal gel in sachet onto clean, healthy skin, over the upper arms and shoulders, once-a-day
  • Leave 3–5 minutes to dry before dressing
  • DO NOT apply to your genital areas (penis and testes) or abdomen

Please note, this product contains alcohol (ethanol 96%) and is flammable until dry.

2. Wash your hands

  • With soap immediately after applying the gel
  • Wait at least one hour after gel application before you bathe, shower or swim

3. Cover up

  • After the application area dries, it should be covered with clothing
  • If someone else comes into contact with the application site, they should wash the affected area with soap and water as soon as possible
  • Report any signs of testosterone exposure to your doctor, such as: acne or changes to your hair, deepening of the voice or changes in menstrual cycle

Precautions1

The most commonly reported side effects are irritation, dryness of skin and acne. Please refer to the package leaflet for a full list of side effects.

Reporting of side effects

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the package leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard or search for MHRA Yellow Card in the Google Play or Apple App Store. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

The testosterone present in Testogel® 40.5 mg, transdermal gel in sachet can be transferred to others through direct skin-on-skin contact. This could cause people that stay in extended contact with you to show signs of excess testosterone. Increased testosterone levels, in people without testosterone deficiency, can have undesirable effects.

Transfer risk is minimised if you follow some simple rules:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water after applying the gel
  • Cover the application area with clothing once the gel has dried
  • Wash the application area before making close skin-to-skin contact with another person or, if not possible, wear clothing such as a shirt or a T-shirt covering the application site during the contact period
  • Wear clothing (such as a sleeved shirt) covering the application site during contact periods with children

Don’t worry, if you think you might have transferred testosterone to someone, tell them to:

  • Wash the area that may have been affected immediately with soap and water
  • Contact a doctor if they get signs such as acne, changes in the growth or pattern of hair on their body or face, deepening of the voice or changes in their menstrual cycle
  • For children, signs of early puberty and genital enlargement should also be looked out for

This medicine contains 1.81 g alcohol (ethanol) in each sachet.
It may cause a burning sensation on damaged skin.
This product is flammable until dry.

If you miss a dose or wash it off by accident, don’t worry. Just apply your next dose at the usual time. You don’t need to take a ‘double’ dose to make up for a missed dose.
